The Great Tapestry of Life
Spinning and Weaving for Change
As the story goes, it all started with a wheel. This seemingly simple creation has made many things possible, however there are some inventions that predate this including sewing needles, woven cloth, rope, & basket weaving. There is no doubt that our advancements hold wonderous power and benefit in the modern world, but there's something about getting back to the basics that started it all.
I love finding the beauty in all things and supporting what matters most to allow the growth of positivity and creativity. I grew up on a small farm in rural central Texas, surrounded by chickens, goats, cows, cats, dogs, and even had my own paint horse named Bobo(he LOVED beer). I am also obsessed with knowledge and am almost always reading in my spare time while watching documentaries.
Ever since I was very young I've always loved just touching things and feeling their many textures, especially various textiles and fibers. I've also always been drawn to the arts sector, and spent over 5 years in the custom framing business and enjoyed every day seeing SO many different pieces of art done in so many different mediums. Building out a completely custom framing design by hand to compliment each piece from fabulous paintings, giant handwoven tapestries, and great items of historical importance, to collages of all types that could fill a 4' x 4' frame was a wonderous & creative process. This work required meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of colors and design to create a cohesive look. But in this line of work I was missing out on getting my 'fix' of fibers and texture.
So I decided to go all in and start my own business of spinning yarn and creating one of a kind woven pieces of art myself instead of being on the other side and I couldn't be happier. I hope my creations can bring you as much joy as they do for me!
We have but one planet we call home, and as stewards it is our responsibility to champion for change and to support those who work hard for our home and all creatures here. For every item sold in my shop, 10% of the proceeds will go to nonprofit organizations with a focus on environmental change or restoration. A note will be included listing the organization and what they do, so that you may check them out yourself, or share with friends and family!
Materials
I avoid synthetic and eco harmful materials like plastic, acrylic, rayon, polyester, nylon, angelina, firestar, & organza. I strive to source ethical natural materials.
Packaging
I use undyed reusable cotton bags when packing yarns, fibers, and smaller items. I use a glass dip pen for notes instead of plastic disposable pens, and print all labels in my studio.
Shipping
I ship my items in compostable mailers & recycled(when available) cardboard boxes with paper tape. I use recycled packing paper when possible as well. 100% plastic and worry free.
Support
I give back with every order to an environmental or humanities based charity that I cross check using Charity Navigator. I also donate to auctions raising funds for those in need.
